This Child ID kit could be key to finding missing children

According to the Missing Persons Bureau, one child goes missing every five hours in South Africa.

Safety starts at home, says Bianca Van Aswegen, National case officer at Missing Children SA.

She says parents need to have a conversation with their children on how to keep them safe ,especially in unforeseen circumstances.

  • Never let your child walk alone

  • Create a family password that is known to you and the children for when you are unable to pick them up from school.

Unfortunately, it is a harsh reality of the world that we live in, but you have to prepare your child for what might happen and what to do.

Bianca Van Aswegen, National case officer at Missing Children SA

The NGO has developed a special Child ID Profile Kit that enables parents to have relevant, useful information immediately available for police should a child go missing.

This is a form that parents can keep at home in case of emergency. The form should have important information like:

  • Eye colour
  • Birth marks
  • Hair colour
  • Finger prints
  • Recent photo
  • The child's age
  • Full names
