CapeTalk's, John Maytham has been recently introduced to the fidget spinner and has familiarised himself with the gadget in under 24 hours.
The fidget spinner first emerged in 1997, created by an engineer who let the patent expire on the invention, meaning there is now no intellectual property associated with it.

Walsh adds that the gadget has opened up the door for more innovations of its kind.

Walsh says Takealot.com has about 120 varieties of the fidget spinner with prices ranging from R70 to R800.
