Donald Trump confirms withdrawal from Paris climate agreement

Donald Trump has announced the withdrawal of the US from the Paris agreement on climate change.

Trump says he wants to "renegotiate" a fairer deal that would not disadvantage US businesses and workers.

He said this is “a reassertion of America’s sovereignty”, and added he could try to re-enter the deal under more favourable terms or work to establish “an entirely new transaction” but indicated that it is not a priority.

Caller Yusuf says the withdrawal will have a significant effect globally.

It is more so a huge shift in international politics, particularly for the United States and when I say this. Usually when it comes to any sort of international agreement of this magnitude you see the US has for the last 200 years I would say the US has been at the front line.

Yusuf, caller

Its a big shift in US policies and this withdrawal I think is signalling to the world there is shift going on and it is a very sad day in Washington right now.
