SANDF Soldiers called to help in #KnysnaFire

Soldiers from the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) along with other officials are trying to bring the fires in Knysna under control.

Four people have been killed as a result of the blaze and ten thousand people have been evacuated from their homes.

Midday Report host Stephen Grootes spoke to the spokesperson of the Provincial Minister for Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning, James-Brent Styan.

We are doing everything we can to kill off those fires that are still waging. This was a massively unexpected event, but we are dealing with it as best as we can.

Thousands of people are accommodated at community halls and other facilities across parts of the Western Cape, as the battle with the blaze continues.

300 structures have been completely destroyed and variety of others, including houses are heavily affected.
