Climate change is key focus in big cities says Salga chair Parks Tau

The South African Local Government Association (Salga) has organised its first meeting of the council mayors in the Cape Town’s council chamber.

The meeting is led by the organisation chairperson, councilor Parks Tau who is a leader of the ANC in the City of Joburg. He’s also a former mayor of the city.

Midday Report host Stephen Grootes spoke to Tau about the meeting. He says it is focusing on their contribution as local government to the global development agenda and the implementation of the National Development Plan (NDP).

Cities plan is important with regard to implementing climate change mitigation measures and cities are the most affected.

You would know the City of Cape Town and the rest of the Western Cape experienced excessive drought over the past few weeks, and suddenly excessive challenges with regard to storm conditions, which is the reflection of the climate change.
