A possible strike which might affect the Department of Home Affairs. Employees are unhappy that the department demand that they work on Saturdays while not being paid overtime.
Cape Talk host, John Maytham spoke to EWN reporter Barry Bateman who attended a meeting of the unions involved.
The department insists that it’s not in a financial position to meet the demand, saying if staff work on a Saturday they’re given a Wednesday off in lieu of payment.
This offer is not being accepted by the union, they are insistent on the payment of cash for the day.— Barry Bateman, EWN reporter
