Former ANC Treasurer Dr Mathews Phosa has accepted nominations to run for the position of ANC leader.
Phosa says he has accepted the nomination as it has come from the grassroots of the ruling party.
On Sunday, he attended an event where seven Cape Town branches have endorsed him in Khayelitsha.
Phosa has been a vocal critic of the ANC and says the ruling party needs to stop being in denial in order for it to self-correct.
The ANC must accept that it has shifted away from its basic values.

He has called for President Jacob Zuma and the "conflicted" ANC NEC to step down and says an interim structure must take the ruling party to the ANC's December conference.
This current leadership has failed... What more must happen?
