Cosatu scraps bilateral meeting with ANC to explain call for Zuma to step down

A meeting where Cosatu was expected to provide clarification on its decision to ban President Jacob Zuma from speaking at the labour federation's events has been called off.

The meeting was between the ANC and its alliance partner Cosatu.

EWN reporter, Clement Manyathela says it seems that Cosatu is saying that they want to meet with the ANC in an alliance political council, not in a bilateral meeting.

He says the ANC's top six met on Sunday to prepare for this meeting but still Cosatu is not changing its mind.

Now Cosatu is saying we are not going to budge we want that Alliance political council meeting.

Clement Manyathela, EWN reporter

I wouldn't be surprised if the SACP also comes out and say they want the alliance political council before a bilateral meeting.

Clement Manyathela, EWN reporter

It seems it is a strategy to be all together when they finally face the President since they called on him to step down.

Clement Manyathela, EWN reporter

According to Manyathela, the Umkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA) has thrown its support behind Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma as the next ANC president at the congress in December.

He says the organisation has elected Kebby Maphatsoe to continue as its leader at its fifth national conference.
