A reporter at Ground up, Ashraf Hendricks speaks to CapeTalk's Kieno Kamies about the chaos that broke out at the Cape Town train station on Monday.
According to Hendricks, hundreds of commuters were left stranded at the station for more than five hours and as a result they started protesting.
There were other reports of looting at Vodacom, MTN and fast food chain McDonalds which are situated in the premises.
Regional manager of Metrorail Western Cape, Richard Walker, says they started experiencing technical issues from 2pm on Monday.
It took their technical team a bit longer to restore power the signaling system and it was eventually restored around 9pm, says Walker.

They came back into the station and unfortunately two of the trains parked on platform 15 and 16 were deliberately set alight.— Richard Walker, Metrorail Regional Manager
Walker says they understand the commuters frustration but cannot condone the looting of some of the shops in the premises. He described the looting as criminal behaviour.
Among the shops that were destroyed was KFC, Burger King, MTN, Vodacom and McDonalds.
