Golden Arrow Bus Service has stepped in to provide free transportation to help Darryn August and mourners lay his mother to rest over the weekend.
The young man was mugged and thrown out of a moving train last year while trying to defend a pregnant woman who was being assaulted.
His mother died of a heart attack last week and the family has faced a great deal of challenges, including financial constraints, he explains.
The community rallied together to raise money for one bus to take the mourners from the church in Athlone to the Gloria Memorial Park Private Cemetery in Ottery.
However, because of the mass support, they soon realised that they would need an additional bus.
Golden Arrow has offered to waive their R 1460 bus hire fee for the funeral on Saturday.
