Despite a court declaring Lipolelo Thabane's as the official first lady, she had no security detail or government privileges.

Prime Minister-elect Tom Thabane's estranged wife faced an alleged attacked at her home two days before her untimely death.

Lesotho Times Journalist Marasaele Mohloboli says trespassers were unsuccessful on Monday when neighbours responded to a triggered alarm.

What is more [strange] is that on Monday she was attacked at her place. There was a raiding from unknown people but they didn't get to anything... neighbours came to her rescue.

Mohloboli reports that the shooting took place near Maseru in Hamasana village.

Despite a court declaring her as the official first lady, Thabane had no security detail, chauffeur or any other government privileges.

Police are investigating the murder and it is yet to be seen whether the inauguration will go ahead on Friday.
