Chamber to seek court interdict against new mining charter

The Chamber of Mines says it is going to court to interdict the implementation of the new mining charter.

The chamber boycotted the announcement of the new charter by Minister Mosebenzi Zwane,on Thursday, saying they had not been consulted.

The charter proposes 30% black ownership of mining rights and 50% for prospecting rights, among other contentious issues.

The chamber's Tebello Chabana says the charter was released unilaterally and does not take into account submission made by stakeholders.

The chamber represents 90% of the industry and Chabana explains that is is pro-transformation, despite their objections.

We think the final product is flawed and the chamber is taking various action.
