MKMVA faction wants 'bogus' elective conference nullified

A faction of former ANC military wing Umkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans' Association (MKMVA) has called for the outcome of last week's elective conference to be annulled.

A number of members boycotted the conference where Kebby Maphatsoe was re-elected chairperson and have labelled it as fraudulent and unlawful.

The ANC's MK steering council and MKMVA say they have evidence that the majority of the delegates present at the elective were not members of MKMVA.

They've proposed that an all-inclusive MK conference to be reconvened at the end of August.

MKMVA General Secretary Dumisani Nduli says MKMVA chair Maphatsoe has turned the structure into his own platform.

He claims that Maphatsoe influenced ANC and MK members, dissuading them from a joint conference ahead of his re-election.

Kebby Maphatsoe wanted to be elected chairperson of MKMVA by hook or crook.

The MK national council, made up of veterans who are unhappy with the way the organisation has been run, has also called in to question the legitimacy of the recent national conference.

The council’s steering committee says it is pushing ahead with their own all inclusive conference.

The committee's deputy chairperson Thabang Makwetla says they intend on visiting various regions to mobilise members towards a "legitimate" conference.

The bogus conference was a huge disappointment to many MK cadres.
