Brown also elaborated the succession battle and how Sports Minister, Fikile Mbalula, is throwing his weight behind Gauteng Premier, David Makhura as ANC secretary-general.

At the last ANC NEC the focus was on the motion of no confidence where the NEC agreed that members can discuss names of candidates without getting into personal attacks, which is unusual for the ANC.

Mbalula said Makhura is an excellent candidate for secretary-general of the organisation. He also said that current Free State Premier, Ace Magashula as secretary-general would mean the death of the organisation (ANC).
