Correctional Services policies state that those visiting prisons should be in appropriate clothing.— Thando Khubeka, EWN
South Africans on social media are circulating pictures showing strippers entertaining convicts inside Johannesburg Prison.
Acting Commissioner James Smalberger says his department condemns the breach of security.
He says an investigation is under way.
In the explicit photos, three scantily clad strippers can be seen surrounding an inmate who appears to be getting ready to take off his trousers.
The strippers were entertaining convicts as part of this month's Youth Day celebrations.
Smal confirmed that the Department has identified 13 officials in connection with the security breach.
They have been served with letters informing them of their possible suspension.
The Johannesburg Central Prison, also known as Sun City, is home to some of the country’s most dangerous convicts.
