Basic Education Minister, Angie Motshekga launched the national school hygiene programme in Alexandra on Monday afternoon. The programme is designed to decrease preventable infections with the aim of increasing pupil attendance and is in partnership with Unilever.
Minister Motshekga told an EWN reporter at the programme launch will focus on health as well as extending services such as counselling, reproductive health and combating the use of illegal substances.
Motshekga says the programme will require the department to seek external resources and stakeholders to aid with various support such conducting eye tests and access to sanitation.
