Meeting between the City and community leaders currently underway in Joe Slovo

Community leaders from Joe Slovo Park are meeting with City of Cape Town officials following an extended period of unrest in the area.

A MyCiTi bus was torched in the area on Sunday and several buildings set alight on Monday night.

EWN reporter, Shamiela Fischer, says there's heavy police presence in the area in case of any flare-ups.

It is believed that the unrest was caused by the recent demolition of shacks that were erected in an open land.

The City believes that the community is unhappy because every time residents build on that particular land the City would go and demolish them, adds Fischer.

We are unsure if this is the only issue but we believe it will be revealed during the course of the day.

The City of Cape Town is concerned that because it is at the end of their financial year it might take them a while to fix these damaged facilities.
