35-year-old Hout Bay athlete, Ryan Sandes, won the 161 Km (100 mile) race in California, USA this past weekend.

This was Sandes fifth time competing for the top spot in this competition. He shares his experience with CapeTalk's Kieno Kammies.

I have a huge love for running. I think its more of the adventurous aspect of trail running and having to travel all around the globe.

Ryan Sandes, local athlet

In 2010 Sandes became the first athlete to win all 4 desert races, the Atacama Desert in Chile, the Gobi Desert in China, the Sahara Desert in Egypt, and the Antarctica.

The races takes about 6 to 7 day to complete and covers about 250-kilometers.
