Stress cardiomyopathy explained following the death of young journo Suna Venter

Dr. Richard Nethononda, a cardiologist at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, explains what cardiomyopathy is and how stressful living can contribute to cardiac conditions.

Senior SABC producer, Suna Venter, passed away at the age of 32 on Thursday.

Venter had recently been diagnosed with a cardiac condition known as stress cardiomyopathy.

However, according to Nethononda, stress cardiomyopathy is treatable.

This is seen commonly in young females often as a result of either physical or emotional stress.

More than 90% of people who experience this form of stress induced cardiomyopathy do recover.

Venter was one of the SABC8 challenging the SABC's editorial policy last year and had been under extreme stress. She had also been subjected to ongoing intimidation and violent attacks.
