The Midday Report with Stephen Grootes is broadcasting live from the ANC Policy Conference at Nasrec, south of Johannesburg.
President Jacob Zuma delivered his speech and congratulated the ANC for winning Mogale City back saying the DA has been warned.
EWN reporter Clement Manyathela says the mood of the conference seemed to be more muted that usual. He says the songs sounded a bit "choreographed".
As soon as President Jacob Zuma started introducing and thanking Cyril Ramaphosa, we saw a section of people from the Eastern Cape really clapping and singing saying 'that is our leader'... but of course the President continued with his speech and stopped them from doing so.— Clement Manyathela, EWN reporter
The delegates are really finding it difficult to contain their excitement about the leaders they support.— Clement Manyathela, EWN reporter
Manyathela says secretary-general, Gwede Mantashe, said this conference will be an opportunity for the ANC to rebuild itself and deal with all the issues that have affected it over the past couple of months.
He kept on making comments that if we want people to take us seriously we need to stop reshuffling the Cabinet willy nilly... He is also being frank about the challenges facing the organisation.— Clement Manyathela, EWN reporter
