Volunteerism, community service and kids

Aubrey Masango together with creative parenting expert Nikki Bush spoke about volunteerism and community service and why it’s important for children to get involved and develop the mindset of being a contributor and not just a taker.

Bush says the July school holidays is the perfect time for teenagers to get their community service hours done while they have a bit of time. She says volunteerism is a growing movement around the world.

You can already take holidays in different parts of the world and go and volunteer into communities.

Nikki Bush, creative parenting expert

Introducing volunteerism and community service to children enables them to think outside of themselves. Children are essentially egocentric says Bush. She goes on to say that Life Orientation curriculum in schools is highly supportive of children partaking in community service.

Giving kids a different perspective is very important and prevents them from growing up in a bubble that isn't representative of the world explains Bush.

Bush also talked about Sylvanian Families Dolls houses. She says the Sylvanian Families City House with Lights are ideal for kids to play out their emotions and not are not gender specific.
