Cape Town's Blue Haired Betty returns successfully from Las Vegas

Back in January, we spoke to Gabbi Katz about her dream to become a pin-up girl in the style of the 1950s pin-up, as there was a contest being held in Las Vegas and there were only 6 places left for international entries.

She told us at the time that she wanted to encourage people that beauty goes beyond physical traits, and that one need not resemble a supermodel in order to be considered beautiful. Her alter ego is one she calls "The Blue Haired Betty"

Thanks to the support from listeners and fellow Capetonians, she got the required number of votes and travelled to Las Vegas where she has been for just over two weeks.

Over 140 ladies made it to the event, but over the course of a few days, they were whittled-down to just 12 finalists for the main pageant.

In the end, our blue-haired beauty was awarded the title of second runner-up, placed behind the winner from New Zealand and runner-up from Brazil.

She described the whole experience as "surreal" and hopes to be able to find the required backing and sponsorship to take part again in 2016.
