DA lays criminal charges against Mosebenzi Zwane, Atul, Ajay and Tony Gupta

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has laid criminal charges against Mineral Resources Minister, Mosebenzi Zwane over the Gupta wedding which took place in 2013.

David Maynier, DA Shadow Minister of Finance and MP laid charges against Zwane, Atul Gupta, Ajay Gupta as well Rajesh "Tony" Gupta with the South African Police Services (SAPS) on Monday.

The charges really centre on racketeering and money laundering in terms of the Prevention of Organised Crime Act and then submitting false or untrue tax returns in terms of the Tax Administration Act.

David Maynier, DA Shadow Minister of Finance and MP

On Monday, Zwane said in an interview that he wouldn't respond to claims from emails that he suggests were stolen as a result of cyber crimes.

Only the South African police possess the constitutional mandate to investigate crimes says Maynier. He said that it is their duty to lay criminal charges.

In the past I have laid similar charges with the SAPS against the Gupta family for allegedly offering former deputy finance minister, Mcebisi Jonas, the finance minister position in cabinet. And that matter is being investigated by the Hawks.

David Maynier, DA Shadow Minister of Finance and MP

We have to lay the charges, keep up the pressure and do everything we can to ensure these alleged crimes are investigated, Maynier said.
