Netshitenzhe remains unapologetic about ANC's take on 'white monopoly capital'

The ANC's Joel Netshitenzhe is adamant that he accurately represented the party's stance on monopoly capital, following the ANC's national policy conference last week.

Netshitenzhe, NEC member and ANC's policy guru, announced that nine out of 11 commissions agreed that the party should not use the phrase 'white monopoly capital' to describe the problems in the economy.

He has been accused of misrepresenting the ANC's view and sentiments on the matter.

Netshitenzhe received backlash from some ANC delegates who argued that the decision was not widely accepted and criticised him for reporting on the numbers of those for and against.

Meanhwile, he says capital is different in different parts of the world and says the "white monopoly capital" rhetoric threatens to distort reality.

He reiterated that he would not apologise for saying the strategy and tactics commission had decided to reject the term “white monopoly capital”.

He says the ANC feels categorizing "white monopoly capital" in terms of colour might be a conflation of a political economic concept and the reality of white dominance in the economy.

He says understanding the true nature of the political and economic climate will help the ANC create the right solutions to current challenges.

Netshitenzhe says unity cannot be for its own sake and added that more research needs to be done ahead of the ANC's elective conference in December.

Unity must be founded on principal , policy approaches and how people seek to deal with ANC current challenges.

Netshitenzhe also said that he would not want campaign for a formal leadership position withing the ANC because he says he doesn't need to be in leadership to contribute to the party.
