Proteas caught between a rock and a hard place ahead of their Friday game

Sunday was a really tough day at Lords for the Proteas after losing their first cricket test against England by two hundred and eleven runs.

The South African team suffered another blow when their coach, Russell Domingo had to return to the country following the unfortunate news of his mother's passing.

The Proteas bowled pretty well on Sunday morning but let the English tail get away from them.

All those pre-series jitters and concerns really came home to roost overnight such poor batting overall, average bowling and awful fielding says Smyth.

Smyth adds that former South African cricketers like Graeme Smith and Allan Donald called the decision to suspend Kagiso Rabada, ridiculous.

Sports is modern warfare in many respects and you can understand how these frustrations come out.

Smyth says he sympathises with the Proteas and without Rabada, they face a tough game ahead of them on Friday.

He says with the return of Faf du Plessis, things may look up a bit for the Proteas.
