Speculation as Eskom pushes release of financial results to next week

Eskom has postponed the release of its financial results to next week Wednesday, which has raised questions about the leadership and state of affairs at the utility.

The power producer made the announcement late on Monday night, just hours before it was supposed to release the figures.

The move comes on the back of reports that Eskom’s former acting chief executive Matshela Koko may be facing disciplinary charges over irregularities at the utility.

Eskom says it postponed the announcement of its annual financial results in order to meet with unions, reports EWN's Gia Nicolaides.

Unions have raised concerns about the possibility of at least four power stations closing down.

The power utility says officials need to engage with all the stakeholders in order to avoid making surprise announcements next week.

Nicolaides says the last minute changes have caused some industry players to speculate.
