We are not a Zuma nation, Zuma does not define us says Max du Preez

South Africans should urgently escape the paralysing grip of depression and pessimism lest it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy, wrote journalist, author and columnist, Max du Preez in his recent News24 column.

Let’s snap out of it, dammit, pleads Du Preez.

He says if we focus only on the mess, naming the Gupta's, Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba, President Jacob Zuma and state capture then South Africa will definitely become crippled.

Du Preez says the country has become so obsessed with the negativity hanging over our heads that we have forgotten to embrace our potential and those standing up for our integrity such as advocate Thuli Madonsela and ANC MP, Dr. Makhosi Khoza.

We should find our own inner strength and realise that we are not a Zuma nation. Zuma does not define us.

Max du Preez, News24 Columnist, Journalist and Author

Sounding confident, du Preez says he knows South Africa will get over these trying times but cannot ascertain how much longer the dark cloud will linger of the nation.

He says there isn't much that can be done about President Zuma at the moment but urges South African's to find and hang onto their optimism.

The source of my optimism is that I am beginning to sense the same kind of spirit that we had during the UDF in 80's, a much bleaker time than now. And yet there was this internal resistance from people of all classes.

Max du Preez, News24 Columnist, Journalist and Author

The United Democratic Front (UDF) defeated apartheid, not Umkhonto we Sizwe says du Preez.

Du Preez says South Africans, through standing committee on public accounts (Scopa) have already defeated the likes of former South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng and former Eskom CEO, Brian Molefe.
