Chester Bennington, the lead singer of rock band Linkin Park, was found dead on Thursday at his southern California home in an apparent suicide by hanging.
Throughout his career Bennington spoke openly about his struggle to overcome alcohol and drug abuse.
In 2011 he claimed to have been sober for six years.
Bennington has often spoken about suicide in the past.
He was a victim of childhood molestation and abuse.
Linkin Park, a band that found massive success and critical acclaim in 2000 with their album “Hybrid Theory”, was due to kick of the US leg off its world tour on 27 July.
