Disabled hand cyclist 'Zig Zag Zach' is a winner

Pippa Hudson chats to 10-year old award-winning hand cyclist Zach Legward who took on the Momentum Knysna Cycle Tour 50km event this year.

Zach is the youngest hand cyclist in South Africa and he also lives with a disability.

Pippa spoke to the inspirational boy in June before the race. Now he talks about the special experience.

The ride took him 4 hours 1 minute and 42 seconds and his dad Geoff accompanied him all the way.

Zach says he was very aware of the effects of the Knysna fires during the race.

All the burn marks - I could just imagine how big the fire would have been.

He has gone faster than he ever has before downhill.

How did Zach feel crossing that finish line?

I felt amazed...and after I crossed the finish line I could not believe I had done 50kms.

Zach was racing to raise money for Rotary in aid of other's who need specially adapted bicycles and he says he raised R13 000 from supporters.

It is going to a disabled charity in Knysna.

He is planning to do the Argus Cycle Tour next year.
