Fifteen Western Cape schools vandalised during school holidays

Spokesperson for Western Cape Education MEC Debbie Schafer, Jessica Shelver, says vandalism in schools during school holidays has reduced.

Last year during the same period about 21 schools were damaged and this time there were only 15 schools reported.

She says the department has had to beef up security across the province. About 422 schools in the Western Cape received additional security.

According to Eye Witness News, a school in Khayelitsha was broken into and computers were stolen.

Shelver has confirmed that 27 computers and a server were stolen at this school and says the stolen equipment was worth R350 000.

The learners are going to be significantly disadvantaged because of this.
