Ekares Twilight stitching communities together with their designs

Kelebogile Serake is the co-founder of Ekares Twilight, a clothing and manufacturing business.

Ekares Twilight is a partnership between two merged companies founded in 2015.

They design and manufacture quality garments for individuals and schools as well as corporate uniforms. The company also offers a course in sewing skills.

Their main service is school uniforms; but they also offer custom-made clothing, corporate wear, bridal and traditional wear, explains Serake.

Our main core is school uniforms, it makes up 70% of clients... Our other clients ensure we keep our creativity flowing.

According to Serake, a portion of their sales goes towards fundraising for local schools.

The company has 3650 orders annually and sell over 15000 designs a month.

She explains that Ekares Twilight has focused on servicing their local community in order to grow relationship and trusts with parents and schools.

The company currently employs four staff and generates R350 000 per annum.

Serake grew up in the small village called Weltevrede in the North-West and was surrounded with family members who role modeled self-sufficiency and entrepreneurship.

She says she developed her interest in clothing design thanks to her grandmother, who also passed down her entrepreneurial skills.

My grandmother has always been a hustler. She used to have a sewing machine, make clothes for people and a whole lot of alterations.

Serake moved to Gauteng and, while working in retail, acquired fashion design diploma from the University of Johannesburg (UJ).

After working as a store manager and later as a customer service auditor, she decided to take a leap and start sewing full time.

Ekares Twilight is based at the Riversands Incubation Hub in Midrand.
