Roads in and around Pelican Park closed due to protests

Major routes around Pelican Park have been closed due to protests in the area.

Motorists are urged to be careful as cars have been pelted with stones.

Metro Police Chief, Wayne le Roux, says a crowd of about 500 people have gathered on the Strandfontein Road since 5am disrupting traffic.

The public order policing have been deployed in the area to keep the situation under control, says le Roux.

It is currently unclear why the community is protesting but Le Roux says they are trying to find out the reasons behind it.

This caught us completely off guard, the police are trying to find the community leaders to find out why are they protests but no body is talking...
