African National Congress (ANC) Member of Parliament (MP) Makhosi Khoza has been formally charged by the party's KwaZulu Natal Provincial Executive Committee. After claiming she received death threats, she has also declined an offer of security by the state.
Political journalist, Karima Brown, says that Khoza believes that the people offering her security could be the same people threatening her. Khosa has responded to both the disciplinary charges and offer of protection on Facebook stating that she has been singled out for raising concerns against the President.
Brown believes that Khoza is exposing intimidation within the ANC and alluding to the fact that the police cannot be trusted.
I think what Makhosi Khoza is doing, is she is lifting the lid on this low level intimidation that has been happening in the African National Congress that no one is talking about.— Karima Brown, political analyst and Talk At Nine host
Khoza is charged on two counts, for bringing the party in disrepute and showing division. According to Brown, this case will tell us a lot about whether the ANC can deal with its members in a consistent manner.
