African National Congress (ANC) MP Makhosi Khoza was due to give a speech at the OR Tambo memorial lecture in Durban on Sunday when she had to withdraw. This, after the event was disrupted by people wearing ANC t-shirts.
Khoza had been invited to deliver the lecture by the Young Communist League of South Africa.
She has received a series of death threats for her comments criticizing President Jacob Zuma.
YCL SA national deputy secretary Isaac Luthuli claims the group confirmed that they were deployed by the regional leadership of the ANC to disrupt the event.
When we engaged with these comrades, some of them cited that they were deployed by the regional leadership of the ANC to disrupt the programme.— Isaac Luthuli, national deputy secretary of the YCL
The culture of intolerance within the ANC and the alliance, in general, is becoming a norm....it can get worse, but we hope it won't because at the end of the day it seems that some of the leadership in the ANC are using honest members of the ANC to fight their factional battles.— Isaac Luthuli, national deputy secretary of the YCL
