Joburg ANC claims Mashaba set to fire Finance MMC Dagada over billing crisis

A statement from the Johannesburg region of the African National Congress released a statement this morning claiming the city's mayor Herman Mashaba is set to fire the current member of the mayoral committee for finance Rabelani Dagada.

It has hit out at Mashaba and blamed him for the billing crisis, describing his commitment to resolving the matter as a 'smoke screen'.

The regional branch insists Dagada is being used as a sacrificial lamb and Mashaba should account for the matter.

ANC Joburg spokesperson, Jolidee Matongo explains why they have reason to believe Mashaba is about to axe Dagada.

The mayor has obviously in the past few weeks removed Dagada as the leader of executive business, secondly he has removed him as the chair of the gatherings cluster. He [Mashaba] has just made a statement that he is personally going to go into the department, which means that he is setting aside the political head of the department which is the MMC for finance.

He says Mashaba should account for his role in the crisis.

He is trying to be seen to be a no nonsense mayor...Mashaba has meddled. He has messed up, he has changed the senior management of the revenue department three times.

Jolidee Matongo, spokesperson

Stephen Grootes points out that the self-same billing system has been in place since the previous ANC administration and questions why Mashaba is being blamed for the problems.
