The City of Cape Town is putting in measures to save water and curb high water usage in the midst of Western cape ongoing drought.
Mayco member for Utilities, Cllr Xanthea Limberg, says water inspectors will be visiting properties of high water users demanding that they cut down on the amount of water they use.
She says failure to do so will result in the installation of water demand management devices which will restrict their water usage to the acceptable level of consumption as per level 4B water restrictions requirements.
Under level 4B water restrictions, the court has approved the new set of fines, says Limberg.
If found misusing water you can be given a fine of R5000 which can be escalated to R10 000. And if high consumption is continued, the offender can be jailed.
