Orlando Pirates head coach calls it quits

Kjell Jonevret has resigned as Orlando pirates head coach after only six months with the team.

In a statement on the club’s official website, Jonevret thanked the chairman, Dr. Irvin Khoza, the club and the supporters for giving him an opportunity to be the coach.

Jonevret recently suffered his first, and now only, loss in a Soweto Derby, losing 1-0 to rivals Kaizer Chiefs in the Carling Black Label Champion Cup.

Eyewitness News reporter Morena Mothupi says management may need to review their strategy.

Orlando Pirates is in turmoil, they are close to tatters. Management needs to start reflecting on themselves and realising that it is not going to get right and the resignation of coaches six months into the job. This is the second time now where the coach resigns in six months and that is not good for a brand as big as Pirates.

Mothupi says the team is sitting with an aging squad.

Things like players, the personnel you have on the team and I suppose the attitude of those players on the team says a lot about where the club is. This resignation is indicative of everything that has gone wrong...
