Touch - the forgotten sense in childhood

Creative parenting expert, Nikki Bush says children are experiencing the sense of touch much less with the an increasingly digitized world.

Phemelo Motene chats to Bush about the importance of touch and tactile learning in early childhood development.

Bush also introduces us to Doh’s new range of educational play dough sets.

Children learn best in the foundation phase in a very concrete way, where they interact with real toys real people, real substances in real time with real people.

Nikki Bush, creative parenting expert

Play dough is an amazing compound that children can push and pull and manipulate and shape and mould, and it does give this multi-sensory feedback to the brain that is very important.

Nikki Bush, creative parenting expert

She says interacting in a tactile way is a building block for your child's learning and suggests other substances like moon sand and foam dough for children to have fun with.
