A witness has described how Deputy Minister of Higher Education Mduduzi Manana trampled on a woman and pulled her hair following an altercation at a Johannesburg nightclub.
Witness Lumko Jimlongo says at least three women were attacked by Manana at the Cubana night club in Fourways during the early hours of Sunday morning.
He [Manana] proceeded to use his foot and he trampled on her [the woman] from her head to her body and she was on the floor and he had a chunk of her hair in his hand. He was literally pulling her by the hair.— Lumko Jimlongo, witness
Jimlongo says he wasn’t privy to the conversation, so he can’t discuss what may have led to the fight.
They were arguing and basically just creating havoc. Then the lady looked like she was attempting to walk towards the door when he struck her.— Lumko Jimlongo, witness
He says he is not certain if she fell because of the blow or if the women slipped.
When I say trampled, I mean whatever part of the body he could get his foot on.— Lumko Jimlongo, witness
Jimlongo says he then approached the minister and told him to stop, but the deputy minister asked him who he was and what he was going to do to him.
The fight then apparently moved to the parking lot, where more women were apparently assaulted.
The incident takes place at a time when South Africa is celebrating Women’s Month.
Police have confirmed that cases have been opened.
