Mbete approves secret ballot

National Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbete has decided to allow a secret ballot vote in the no confidence motion in President Jacob Zuma.

Mbete says her decision is in the best interest of South Africa.

Mbete briefed media on the voting procedure to be followed when the motion is debated tomorrow.

The Speaker maintains that she will not recuse herself from the proceedings during the debate in Parliament on Tuesday.

She says that she has taken the decision in the interest of transparency.

Opposition parties have criticised Mbete for delaying her decision up to the last moment.
