Makhosi Khoza urges ANC MPs to free the country from "suffocating web of greed"

Outspoken ANC Member of Parliament (MP) Makhosi Khoza has pleaded with ANC National Assembly members.

This comes ahead of a motion of no confidence vote against President Jacob Zuma on Tuesday afternoon.

The MP, who has allegedly been subject to death threats, says in a statement released on Monday that removing Zuma is not a “silver bullet” for the country.

She does however stress the importance of the vote, saying it will be a critical step in “taking back our democracy.”

Our democracy has been usurped by a suffocating web of greed, corruption and patronage that has become the hallmark of the current ANC leadership.

The MP says the ruling party is not rotten and that the ANC remains her heritage.

In Parliament, in the provinces and in our municipalities, there are many honest and patriotic ANC members who sought public office to genuinely serve all the people of our country.

Khoza says that while many members live by the ANC’s values, Zuma does not subscribe to the values and principles of the party.

“For seven votes of no confidence I was complicit in propping up a leader who has consistently put his own interests above those of the people whom he supposedly serves.”

She says she did so in the hope that the party would eventually stand against their “failed leader” but this never happened.

Good ANC MPs who choose to do the right thing are likely to find themselves immediately recalled and cast out of the party. These are people with homes and children, with families to feed and school fees to pay.

Khoza says ANC MPs can no longer prop up Zuma’s kleptocracy.

It is a vote against the kleptocracy President Jacob Zuma has actively developed during his tenure as the leader of the ANC and President of the country.
