We're not asking the ANC to remove the entire government, just Zuma - Maimane

Ahead of the motion of no confidence in Jacob Zuma, Democratic Alliance (DA) leader, Mmusi Maimane, says that he believes there is a real opportunity to see the President removed.

This is largely due to Speaker of the National Assembly, Baleka Mbete's decision that the vote will be a secret ballot. Maimane feels that this decision has driven momentum towards the opposition parties goal of ousting Zuma from the presidency.

READ: Mbete approves secret ballot

We are not asking ANC MPs to remove the entire government, we are simply asking them to remove Jacob Zuma, to do what is right for the people of this country.

Mmusi Maimane, Leader of the Democratic Alliance

The African National Congress (ANC) holds the majority of seats in parliament, so essentially the decision of removing Zuma lies in their hands. Maimane is confident that they will vote in favour of the opposition's motion of no confidence, as they represent the public first and foremost.

In this instance, its really a fundamental choice between South Africa or Jacob Zuma or partisan. It has to go beyond that.

Mmusi Maimane, Leader of the Democratic Alliance

For Maimane, the secret ballot gives ANC MPs the opportunity to show the same courage of their colleagues who have publicly spoken against Zuma.
