N3 reopened after bridge collapse

Traffic is flowing freely on the N3 highway in Germiston near the Geldenhuys Interchange following Wednesday's bridge collapse.

Engineers spent the night removing debris after a pedestrian bridge collapsed along the busy road at around 1:30am.

Five people were injured in the incident.

City of Ekurhuleni Infrastructure MMC Robert Mashego says they have yet to establish what caused the collapse.

It's something I cannot make a statement on - it is just surprising. The bridge is so solid and so big... one can't comprehend [what made in collapse].
