Zweli Mkhize's statement is a clear call for a new leader - analyst

Political analyst Prince Mashele says a statement by African National Congress (ANC) treasurer-general Zweli Mkhize is a clear call for party members to elect a leader with credibility and that the comments were directed at President Jacob Zuma.

Speaking at the Tshwane University of Technology on Thursdy, Mkhize said the party shouldn’t spend more time protecting leaders who have allegations against them.

He said the time between now and the December elective conference is crucial.

This statement is clearly reaction to what happened in parliament, clearly Zweli Mkhize, when he referred to leaders who are facing allegations, he is in my view referring to President Jacob Zuma, that time must not be spent defending him.

Prince Mashele, political analyst

Responding to questions about the conflicting messages expressed by party leaders like Mkhize, Mashele says the ANC has become an organisation 'of many mouths'.
