High Court hears bid to have PAIA law target info on political party funding

Lobby group My Vote Counts (MVC) has begun another court application get political parties to disclose their donors.

MVC wants a judge to order Parliament to create a law which regulates political party funding.

At the same time, Parliament’s ad hoc inquiry into the political party funding is hearing submissions during public hearings which started on Tuesday.

MVC coordinator Janine Ogle explains that the lobby group is in the High Court to challenge the Promotion of Access to Information Act (“PAIA”) to include transparency on party funding.

PAIA does not allow us to be able to access political party funding information.

Janine Ogle, MyVoteCounts National Coordinator

Ogle says that the organisation will continue with their court bid, despite the concurrent inquiry.
