OPINION: Xolani Gwala asks if Parly should be dissolved for a fresh start

The Democratic Alliance's (DA) motion to have Parliament dissolved has been met with much criticism following last week's failed motion of no confidence in President Jacob Zuma.

Opposition parties said the DA was misguided and was only interested in a regime change and not about removing Zuma.

Breakfast host Xolani Gwala questioned whether the DA's motion has merit following "extraordinary scenes" that unfolded in Parliament.

Five ANC MPs boycotted Makhosi Khoza's committee and let Public Service Minister Faith Muthambi go scot-free because of ANC factional politics that have been brought into Parliament.

She [Muthambi] showed them the middle finger and chose not to pitch up.

Muthambi was due to explain her actions over reports that she spent nearly R500,000 of public funds on flying friends and family to Cape Town.

She reportedly flew 30 people to the Mother City for her budget vote speech in May.

Muthambi is also accused of nepotism after allegedly appointing relatives to her support staff.

Can Parliament ever be respected ever again? Maybe we need a new beginning and is this what the DA is proposing? The EFF says maybe Parliament should be dissolved, but not for the reasons given by the DA.
