Labour Minister to probe dog attack on domestic worker

Labour Minister Mildred Oliphant's office has announced that an investigation has been initiated into the attack of a 57-year-old domestic worker, Lilian Mkosi, by her employer's pit bulls.

Bagraim Attorneys Labour lawyer Greg Duncan says employers have a responsibility to ensure the safety of their employees.

All employees are entitled to be protected or have assurance that where they work, they are safe and that the conditions that they work under are conducive

The employers have their duties and employees have the right to be protected.

Duncan says it is nonsense that the employer told the employee to get used to the dogs. He says the employer should have secured the dogs.

The animals have since been put down by a vet and the victim will be compensated for injuries sustained and her medical bills will be covered by the employer.
