The treasurer general of the ANC Dr Zweli Mkhize spoke to EWN's Stephen Grootes about the situation in the ANC.

One of the questions raised was whether the two factions currently involved in the leadership contest should reach a compromise of some sort.

Mkhize says what is currently needed is to remove the toxicity of the environment.

Dr Zweli Mkhize, ANC treasurer general

Mkhize also commented on a court application in which part of the ANC in Kwa-Zulu Natal is legally contesting the result of the leadership elections that took place two years ago.

He says he is disappointed that a province that was doing so well could end up having such a breakdown to a point their matter is now being handled by the courts.

It is a very sad one because in the past when one was part of this there were no difficulties that could not be resolved, no issues that could not be confronted, there were no individuals that could not be corrected....
