The ANC in KwaZulu Natal is back in the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Thursday to continue arguing the outcomes of the party’s KwaZulu Natal provincial conference which took place in 2015.
The applicants believe that the party’s KZN leadership headed by Sihle Zikalala should be overturned.
EWN reporter, Ziyanda Ngcobo says a tweet that published the outcome before the election results were released was submitted as evidence.
Zikalala's lawyers argued that the tweet should not be considered as evidence because it was not from the ANC's account. They dismissed it as a fake tweet.
They also argued that they had reached the 70% quorum in order to be able to go ahead.— Ziyanda Ngcobo, EWN reporter
The applicants are arguing that before the 70% quorum, a third of the ANC branches would've needed to call for an early conference.— Ziyanda Ngcobo, EWN reporter
The applicants also demand to see proof that a third of the ANC branches called for an early conference.
However, Zikalala's lawyers are saying they got the blessing to go ahead with the conference from the ANC's NEC which has overarching powers.
