Words you’ll hear: Show cause

African National Congress (ANC) Disciplinary Committee chair Derek Hanekom will have to 'show cause' why shouldn’t be fired.

This comes after the unsuccessful motion of no confidence against President Jacob Zuma earlier in August, with Hanekom receiving a letter from ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe.

Hanekom has been a vocal critic of Zuma and state capture, and could fall on his sword, as outspoken ANC MP Makhosi Khoza has.

He will have 10 days to 'show cause' as to why he shouldn’t face the axe.
